TUTORIAL + REVIEW: Shea Moisture's *NEW* Manuka Honey & Yogurt "Hydrate + Repair" line

THE "TAKE-OUT"

Shampoo & Conditioner

Can I just be honest and say I have never used a product line that left my hair feeling so soft?... Upon washing my hair, I realized that something was going to be different about this line than the others immediately when I noticed how the shampoo dripping out of my hair as if it was milk. In addition, I was able to detangle while I rinsed the shampoo. The shampoo left my hair feeling soft and clean, and I noticed that I didn't shed any strands!

While applying the conditioner, I was taken back at how smooth my hair felt and how I didn't noticed the damage on my color-treated areas as much as I usually do. The amount of slip in both the shampoo and the conditioner was much more than I expected. The conditioner rinsed out very well, and I could feel that my hair was replenished of moisture I didn't realize it had lost. I will definitely be incorporating this duo into my regimen.

Protein Treatment

Full transparency, my favorite product of this line in is the "Hydrate + Repair" Protein Power Treatment. THIS STUFF IS HAIR CRACK. My strands felt stronger, and I had an amazing shine, just after the first use. I loved the thick consistency of the protein treatment - I felt that it saturated each strand and a little of this goes a very long way, so it didn't take very much to cover my entire head. With that, I was excited to see the results because usually protein treatments leave my hair very hard - not this one! Not only was my hair soft and silky, I took note on how much hair I shed while using this product line; a whopping total of 8 strands of hair! THAT IS UNHEARD OF in the natural hair community. Hands down: this is my favorite product of the entire line.

Multi- Action Leave- In Conditioner

Although the leave-in conditioner had a great smell, it didn't strike me as anything out of the usual in the quality of it's performance on my hair during this process. I reminded me of the 100% Virigin Coconut Oil leave-in conditioner from Shea Moisture.

Split End Balm

I sealed my ends with the "Hydrate + Repair" Split End Balm, and I had great results. I styled my hair purposely in a braid-out so that I could have a better analysis on the appearance of my ends, and to my surprise my ends looked so healthy and they we're SEALED, no doubt about it. Unfortunately, there was a key detail I didn't like:

1) The consistency is very hard and thick. It reminded me of the days "Dax" was used on edges before edge-control products were mainstreamed. Due to this, I personally will not be using this balm very often due to the texture of the product, and I fear that it will be hard to wash out with my regular regimen. *Back in the day, my mom would use Dawn dish washing liquid to remove the Dax or Murray's from our hair. I fear I may have to do the same if I used the balm very frequently *cringes*.

SUMMARY

In sum, I would recommend the Manuka Honey & Yogurt "Hydrate + Repair" product line to those who have experienced significant damage to their hair due to harsh styling processes, heat-damage, and lack of moisture. With wash n' go season dawning upon us, this is the perfect time for some TLC on our tresses after enduring harsh/dry temperatures this past season.
